Abstract
The government has been conducting an inclusive education where both the normal students and special needs students study together in the same environment. However, the problem appears when the teachers of regular school have lack of knowledge to deal with special needs students. This thesis reports the result of the study about the teaching techniques applied by the regular teacher in English lesson at a pilot inclusive school in Sidoarjo. This study used theory of taxonomy of teaching techniques from Crookes and Chaudron (1991) who classify them into controlled, semi-controlled and free techniques. Through qualitative approach, this study is concerned with the teaching techniques used at VIIE class of SMP Negeri 4 Sidoarjo as the only one inclusive class where there are two learning-disabled students. The writer obtained by means of the data observation and interview. The study found that the techniques applied by the regular English teacher of SMP Negeri 4 Sidoarjo at inclusive class were setting, reading aloud, checking, translation, role play demonstration, and drilling. Drilling technique was particularly applied for the learning-disabled students as the additional technique to accomplish their needs. All of the techniques used belong to the category of controlled techniques by considering the level of students in class as the beginners.
