Abstract

In Indonesia, English nowadays is introduced to children in their early ages. Before learning English language, children need to acquire the vocabulary first. There are many ways in teaching English vocabulary to children, for instance, by using cards containing pictures and words as visual aids and by using respondents for this study are the second grade students of SD Hang Tuah 11 Sidoarjo. The respondents of this study were divided into two groups, the control group and the experimental group, which were taught English vocabulary using different teaching aids. The writer collected the data from the pre-test scores and the post-test scores, then analyzed the score by using t-test. The result of the analysis showed that the use of films produced better result, that is, the score of the experimental group was higher than the control group. Statistically, the score of t-value was higher than t-table, so that the null hypothesis (H0), teaching English vocabulary for children using visual aids, was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1), teaching English vocabulary for children using audio-visual aids, was accepted. In other words, there is difference between teaching English vocabulary using audio-visual and teaching English vocabulary using visual aids.
