Abstract

Discussing on William Blake‟s “The Lamb” and “The Tyger” was motivated by the major reason, the uniqueness of these opposite poems compared to others. Previous studies mostly use a spiritual theme, while it uses social criticism as the main issue expressed in figurative language and understanding the meaning of these poems is becoming the main purpose of this study as well. This is coherent with the theory Structural Dynamic proposed by Mukarovsky. Methods and techniques that are used are identifying the issue of social criticism through figurative language by using close reading method which its steps are heuristic and hermeneutic, and another technique is identifying the meaning of those poems eventually. The result of this study is obviously unfolding the structure that built those poems in which social criticism issue is expressed in those poems. Then, the writer found the meaning of those poems by assuming that those poems are Blake‟s reflection; Blake‟s thoughts about the society when Industrial revolution occurred and brought the significance influence to England, where there is a crisis of human values at that time.
