Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze Word Formation Processes of Gaming Word In Airsoft Gun Community Internet Forum. Gaming community becomes new hobby and social life. Airsoft Gun is one of the gaming communities, but the writer has difficulties to understand the meaning of certain words used in the discussion forum. The writer aims to find how the gaming words used in Airsoft Gun community forum were formed through word formation process. The writer uses descriptive qualitative approach because this study concerns on how the words are processed. The writer used Wright (2001) theory of the typology of game talk to classify the gaming words and Bauer (1988)’s theory as the main theory to find the word formation processes. The writer found 3 of 5 typology game talk. The most frequent typology game talk is Game Technical / External Talk (21 words), the others are Performance Talk (18 words) and Creative Game Talk (7 words). According to word formation processes by Bauer’s (1988) theory, the writer found 4 out of 9 processes. The most frequent processes is Acronym (22 words, 48%), the others are Clipping (10 words, 22%), Compound (6 words, 13%), Blend (3 words, 6%), Suffix (5 words, 11%). The players are often shares Game Technical / External Talk because there are so many accessories in Airsoft Gun, accessories have much influence in the gaming field, the players usually ask question about the accessory which is suitable in particular gaming field. Moreover, Acronym is the most frequent in Airsoft Gun because simple to use, and to save time and list.
