Abstract

This research was done to determine the anti-malarial activity in vitro and in vivo of leaves of some plants from the Cassia genus. In addition to support studies of Chemotaxonomic this genus, phytochemical and microscopic investigation of each of these leaves was done too. Towards leaf that has the largest antimalarial activity was continued in vivo antimalarial test. The results showed that the methanol extract of leaves of C. spectabilis has the strongest antimalarial activity against Plasmodium falciparum in vitro with IC50 of 2.66ug/mL, and inhibits the growth of the rodent malaria parasite Plasmodium berghei in vivo at 59, 29% (at a dose of 100mg/kg BB). Microscopic and phytochemical identification generally showed similarities, but only the leaves of C. spectabilis which shows that it contains alkaloids, while on the other cassia plants are not detected.
