Abstract

Background. Intraoral radiography in dentistry represents a pivotal support with regard to diagnostic determination, planning treatment, and evaluation of treatment, specifically in endodontic treatment. Periapical radiography is a technique frequently used for endodontic treatment. As a result, the buccal and palatal root canals of the first maxillary permanent premolar frequently appear to superimposed. Ideally, when making radio diagnostics of teeth with two or more root canals, practitioners should use SLOB technique, with the proper cone angle at angulation 20 o mesially and distally. The writer wanted to invent innovative equipment by means of modification of standard film holder in order to facilitate SLOB-technique radiography for observing the number of root canals of the first maxillary permanent premolar exactly by comparing radiographs produced by film holder at angulation of 20 o mesially and distally. Purpose. The purpose of the present research was to determine differences in between angulation 20o of mesially and distally as an aid to making radiography with SLOB technique for the purpose of observing the number of root canals of first maxillary permanent premolar. Method. The present research was of analytic observational. Sample consisted of 24 individuals periapically projection-photographed in parallel by the use of modified SLOB-technique film holder at angulation of mesially 20o and distally. Results. There was a significant difference in the use if modified film holder at angulation 20o mesially and distally. Conclusion. Radiographs of the distal angulation 20o modification of the film holder in order to facilitate SLOBtechnique radiography gives a better result, compared with mesial angulasi 20o, where double root canals of the first maxillary permanent premolar does not appear to be superimposed.
