Abstract

Slips are sometimes trivial, sometimes funny but in fact, those phenomena involve linguistics segments errors in production process influenced by some contexts and factors. A slip of the tongue as a one-time error in speech production planning; that is, the speaker intends to utter a particular word, phrase, or sentence, and during the planning process something goes wrong. Slips of the tongue involve the sounds or words of the language and it is related with speech production. The writer conducted this study in order to analyses further about slips of the tongue, especially those that occur in the utterances produced by Indonesian television talk show presenters. Bukan Empat Mata is chosen to be the source of the data for this study. The writer analyzed the data based on the combining types of slips of the tongue proposed by Fromkin (1973) and Harley (1995). Qualitative method is used to the analysis because the data collected are in the form of utterances which are spoken Indonesian talk show presenters and the analysis is represented in the form of words. As the finding of the study, it is concluded that there are 63 slips of the tongue produced by Indonesian talk show presenters. However, The findings of this study showed that the not all of combining types of slips of the tongue Fromkin and Harley‟s types occurred in the utterances produced by Indonesian Talk show presenters. There are only seven types out of eighteen types were appear in this study, namely word substitution (44.4%), phoneme deletion (17.46%), misderivation (19.04%), phoneme anticipation (3.17%), phoneme perseveration (6.34%), word exchange (3.17%) and then affix deletion (3.17%). Furthermore, the most frequently slips happen are word substitution‟s type.
