Abstract

This study was aimed the occurrence of speech disfluency in four year old children in giving argumentation. In this study, the writer took the data from five four-year-old children living in Surabaya. To that end, the writer used a theory that is purposed by Clark and Clark (1977) to analyze the result. The data showed that all participants produced all types of speech disfluency, which are unfilled pause, filled pause, false start, and repetition. Unfilled pause is defined as the type of the speech disfluency that is frequently produced by the participants in giving arguments. The findings showed that each type of speech disfluency had its characteristics. However, there is a tendency of all participants to produce unfilled pause more frequently than the other types.
