Abstract

Background: Panoramic radiograph examination is often used to observe oral cavitiy’s hard tissues condition, both on the maxillary and the mandible. Panoramic radiograph can provide information about the vertical dimension of condyle head and ramus mandible. Edentulous could lead into some morphological changes in mandible. Morphological changes in edentulous mandible can be seen on condylar height and ramus height which can be measured by panoramic radiography. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the values of condylar height and ramus height of edentulous mandible using panoramic radiography. Method: This study was started by collecting 17 samples of edentulous panoramic radiograph and 17 samples of dentate panoramic radiograph. Condylar height and ramus height was measured on both side left and right by 3 observer. Then the results were calculated and analyzed using Repeated measure, One-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and Independent T-test. Result: The value of condylar height of edentulous subject was 6,90 mm and 6,74 mm, whereas the dentate subject was 9,80 mm and 9,78 mm. And the value of ramus height of edentulous subject was 48,99 mm and 50,60 mm, whereas the dentate subject was 54,45 mm and 54,52 mm. Conclusion: The value of condylar height and ramus height of edentulous mandible is lower than the dentate mandible.
