Abstract
This study was conducted to analyze the noun modification patterns in color commentaries used by the two badminton commentators in the final match of BWF World Badminton Championships (WBC) 2013. The data were the transcriptions of the commentaries of mixed doubles and men‟s doubles final matches. The writer used qualitative approach in using, identifying, and analyzing the data. To figure out the phenomenon, Holmes‟ (2008) theory of sport announcer talk, Radford‟s (2004) and Miller‟s (2002) theories of syntax were applied in analyzing the data. The result revealed that the badminton commentators used two types of noun modifier during the match, pre-modifier and post-modifier. Pre-modifier was used to introduce the players and describe the moments during the game play, while post-modifier explained the moments in more details and provided more information about the players during the prize ceremony. Moreover, a player name, which is a proper noun, was also modified or used as modifier.
