Abstract
The writer was doing the observation in Gym Kidz Surabaya to find out the use of flashcards in English vocabulary teaching which focuses on the interaction between the teacher and the students, the students’ responses to the flashcard use. She also attempts to explore the problems faced by the teacher in using the flashcards in the teaching learning process. To do so, the writer conducted the observation throughout the teaching learning process in the ‘Gym Tots’ class. The data of the study was obtained from direct observation. Since this study is a descriptive study, hence the data was analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the flashcards could help the teacher in teaching vocabulary easier. The technique could also build the interest of the students to the topics. However, it was also yield some problems. The improper selection of the pictures in the flashcards might results other perception in naming the pictures. On other hand, the interesting flashcards might also make the students too exciting and focus more on the picture rather than the learning objectives. The writer suggests the selection of the pictures in the flashcards should be done carefully and the pictures in the flashcards should be easy to understand and familiar to the students. Based on the experience during the study, it is advised that the learning processes should not use pictures that are able to results ambiguous perception in naming the vocabulary.
