Abstract
This study analyses interethnic conversation between Arab and Javanese male teenagers. The aims of the study are to discover the use of major aspects, the structural organization of practices or resources, and the domination of one ethnic in the conversation performed by one of the ethnic. This study used a case study approach. The participants were a group of friends consisting of three male teenagers aged 16 years old who had different cultural background. The data were taken at the café. Based on the data analysis, it showed that there were some significant features between the Arab and the Javanese turns. In addition, there were some turns sequentially ordered based on the interethnic conversation between the Arab and the Javanese. Besides, overlap occurred frequently in the process of interethnic conversation between the Arab and the Javanese. There was also a domination of the Arab in the interethnic conversation. There were some reasons about the occurrence of the domination. First, the conversation was focused on the Arab who wanted to share the disappointment. Second, it might be influenced by conversational style. Third, it probably related to the role-relationship between the Javanese and the Arab. The last reason was related to minority and majority in the conversation.
