Abstract

Learning a language, especially a language which is living in certain ethnic groups, has certain interesting things. It is not because the language itself - the system of phonology, morphology, syntax, grammar, etc. - but also due to the close relation between language and ethnicity. Arabs as an ethnic group in Surabaya has some interesting characteristics. Social interaction, cultural behaviour, assimilation among the· members of the ethnic, are some of the many interesting things. The most interesting of these is the language they use called "Kalam Jama'ah".
