Abstract

Background: Lasers have been used in medicine and dentistry since 1964. Nearly a third of the patients studied by the American Dental Association (ADA) in the late 1990s argued that the application of lasers in the practice of a dentist is very important. Purpose: This study attempts to discuss the use of lasers in the dental conservation field because the author wants to provide more information on the progress of laser technology, especially in the field of dental conservation. Review. In a recent study about 31% of adults believe that the laser holds a very important role in dental practice, while 30% think the laser is important in the practice of dentists and 21% think a laser rather important in dental practice. For some dentists, this public perception and the perception of the marketability of lasers in dentistry can create a pressure to immediately implement laser technology. Conclusion: Laser is in fact already discovered since several decades ago, but laser has not been applied widely in dentistry, particularly in dental conservation. Conventional technique i.e. endodontics, is still superior to the laser technology for dental treatment.
