Abstract
Background. Destruction of alveolar bone happen in periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is certainly involved with cytokines, chemotactic factors and inflammatory cells. So we need therapy to overcome this inflammatory mediators of destruction bone. Fish oil recently has been proved to be good for bone health and it can lower the level of inflammatory mediators. Purpose. The aim of this study was to prove an increased number of osteoblast cells from wistar ratalveolar bone induced Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans that had been givenflSh oil. Method. 27 male wistar rats were divided into three study groups: control, Aa, and Aa with fish oil. In Aa group, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans bactery was given in first, third, fifth day of one month experiment. In Aa with fish oil group was given either Aggregatibacte actinomycetemcomitans bactery and fish oil. At the end of one month, the rats were sacrificed, the alveolar bone tissue were dissected and extracted, and the extracts were analyzed for osteoblast level by microscope. Result. Aa group resulted in significantly reductions in the alveolar bone tissue level of osteoblast than the control (p<O.05). Aa with fish oil group show significant elevation of osteoblast compared to Aa group (p<O.05). Conclusion. Aa with fish oil show significant elevation on osteoblast cells number of wistar rats alveolar bone induced Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitan.
