Abstract

The term "translation" is the neutral term used for all tasks where the meaning of expressions in one language text (the SL) is turned into the meaning of another (the TL). The interesting thing happens in translation is the occurences of shifts in the process of it. Just like language, translation is intended for the purpose of communication, so it must be able to convey the messages as closest as possible to. the SL, either in form or meaning. However, each language differs one to another, thus attempts to preserve both form and meaning in translation can result in complete unintelligibility and awkwardness. For this reason, the occurence of. shifts in a translation is unavoidable.
