Abstract
This study aims to analyze the type of classroom interaction produced by English teacher and students, and the influence of teacher talk towards student talk during speaking class activity. The data were taken from two teachers in different classes of eleventh grade social science of SMAN 3 Surabaya in the form of observation. This study was conducted by using qualitative approach to describe and to analyze types of teacher talk and student talk during process of teaching. The data were analyzed by using Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories (FIAC) system to identify teacher talk and student talk. The finding indicates that teacher dominates the interaction during the teaching activity, and the most frequently used by teacher are asking questions, lecturing, and giving directions, but accepting feeling rarely appears in this research. Besides, giving response is more frequent in the speaking activity that is produced by students rather than initiating the speaking activity. It was concluded that teacher gives support to the students to have more opportunity to speak during speaking activity.
