Abstract
Although many studies about critical discourse analysis have been conducted by several researchers and by using several theories, Van Dijk's theory is still seen as recommended theory since the classifications of the text analysis, particularly news reports, are vivid. This paper investigated the ideology constructed in the news report in The New York Times and Al Jazeera. The sources of data were obtained from the official website of The New York Times and Al Jazeera. The news reports were selected under the Iran's nuclear issue. The sources of data then were analyzed by using the three levels of critical discourse analysis with sociocognitive approach proposed by Teun A. Van Dijk, textual analysis, social cognition, and societal analysis. This analysis functioned to find how an ideology works through the news reports. The results revealed that the ideology used in The New York Times tended to oppose the issue of Iran's Nuclear Issue, while Al Jazeera tended to support Iran's nuclear issue. This study indicated that the three levels of analysis were associated with each other and were effectively used in finding the ideology through news reports. Besides, the media has their own ways in delivering the news and therefore needs to be observed.
