Abstract
Background. Oral candidiasis is a common opportunistic irifectjon of the oral cavity caused by an overgrowth of Candida species, the commonest being Candida a/bieans. The fungal infections could be life-threatening in immunocomprornised patients. Candida albicans is the most frequent fungi in the oral cavity. Green tea is a 'non-fermented' lea, and contains more catechins, than black tea or aolong tea. It has many health benefits, one of them is antijitngal effect. Purpose. The aim of this study is to account the inhibition effect of green tea extract towards Candida a/Means. Method. This research is done with the help a volunteer, man or woman, who used to wear removable denture after 12 months and does not have systemic disease. The lesion is swabbed from redness mucosa that contacts the jitting surface of the denture. The swabbed material is incubated in sabourauds's dextrose agar to let the Candida alMcans to grow. Green tea leaf extract is diluted in different concentrations 1 00%, 50%,25%,12,50%, 6,25%, 3,13%,1,56% and 0,78%. After 24 hours inhibition zone will be measured. Result. The result of this study was that the minimum inhibitory concentration of green tea extract to inhibit Candida a/Mcans growth was of 12, 5% and minimum bactericidal concentrationwas of 25%. Conclusion. Green tea extract can inhibit growth of Candida alMcans.
