Abstract

Background. Brush your teeth often contaminated with bacteria has the potential to cross-contamination occurred To reduce bacterial contamination of toothbrushes, antiseptic required Chlorhexidine gluconate is an antiseptic and hexetidine that have antimicrobial properties and may reduce growth and easily obtained. Purpose. To find the difference amount of contamination of bacterial colonies on the tooth brush soaked with a solution of chlorhexidine gluconate 0.1% and 0.1% hexetidine. Materials and methods. Twenty-one samples obtained from a toothbrush that has been used to brush teeth for 3 minutes and then rinsed with sterile aquades for 20 seconds. Divided into 3 groups: the first group without immersed with chlorhexidine gluconate 0,1% and hexetidine 0.1% (as control), the latter immersed in chlorhexidine gluconate 0,1% for 20 minutes, the third group immersed with hexetidine 0,1% for 20 minutes. Calculated the number of colonies of microorganisms. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Mann-Whitney Test. Results. There are significant differences between treatment groups, p = 0.00 (p <0.05). Conclusion. Contamination of bacterial colonies on the tooth brush immersed with chlorhexidine gluconate 0.1% lower than those immersed with 0.1% hexetidine.
