Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze how the defense management or survival of a local tourist village in the face of a pandemic. By taking the research location in the old tourist village of Maspati Surabaya, this study aims to provide lessons about how the tourist village experienced a difficult time and how the tourist village got out of this difficult time. To achieve this goal, a qualitative research design was used in this study. In-depth interviews were conducted with the community, government officials or related tourism offices. Reviews of tourism marketing and policy materials at the national, regional and local levels were also carried out for data contextualization. The research results show that various methods or strategies are used by the tourism village managers to 'support' the community, including encouraging people to sell products that will be bought by themselves. This method makes them feel the same fate and join hands in facing the pandemic.
