Abstract

EFFECT OF HEALTH EDUCATION USING LECTURE AND DEMONSTRATION METHODS ON PARENTAL BEHAVIOR IN THE PREVENTION OF ERUMEN IMPACTION IN l" GRADE YEAR AT SDN PLUMPUNGRE30 I MADIUN By : Dian Perdana Fitri Mandasari Earwax blockage is found in school-aged children, This blockage can cause hearing loss that may impair the absorption of learning process. Cleanliness of child's ears cannot be separated from the behavior of the parents in taking care of children's ear hygiene. Health education using lecture and demonstration methods can be applied as a solution to the problem. This study used pre-experimental design. Population of respondents were parents with children in 14 grade at SDN Plumpungrejo I. The whole sample comprised 36 persons who met the inclusion criteria. The independent variable was health education using lecture and demonstration. The dependent variable was the behavior of the parents. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation sheets, and analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with significance p<0.05. Results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed that health education with lecture and demonstration affected knowledge (v0.000), attitude (v0,008), and the actions (y0,000) of the parents. In conclusion, health education with lecture and demonstration methods can improve the behavior of parents in preventing cerumen impaction in children. Health education using lecture and demonstration methods can be recommended for institutions and parents. Future studies should examine factors that influence the behavior of parents in preventing cerumen impaction in children.
