Abstract

ANALYSIS OF FACTORS RELATED TO EARLY INITIATION OF BREASTFEEDING IN POSTPARTUM MOTHERS AT PAVILION MELATI, GENERAL HOSPITAL, JOMBANG Eliza Zihni Zatihulwani High Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in Indonesia remains a health problem. Early breastfeeding is one intervention that can significantly reduce infant mortality. Good exposure to necessary information is needed so that knowledge and attitude of mothers regarding Early Initiation of Brcastfeedirig (EIS) can be improved adequately and optimally. The purpose of this research was to study the factors related to the implementation of the EIB on postpartum mothers in Pavilion Melati, General Hospital, Jombang. The study was a descriptive analytic study. The population involved was post partum mothers who previously had delivery in PONEK, General Hospital, Jombang, from 16 to 23 May 2013. Samples were obtained using purposive sampling. The research was conducted by direct observation of the implementation of EIB followed by distributing questionnaires to 44 respondents Data were analyzed using Spearmen's Rho. Knowledge had significant relationship with EH with p - 0.000 and (r) 0.507. Attitude had significant relationship with the implementation of EIB with p = 0.007 and (r) 0.403. Gestational age was not significantly related with the implementation of the EIB with p = 0,.554 and (r) 0.092. Parity did not have a significant relationship with the implementation of the EIB with p = 0.117 and (r) 0.240. Post partum mothers who had good knowledge and positive attitude would support the success of EIS. Gestational age and maternal parity did not have significant relationship with the success of the EIB. Exposure to reliable information about EIB is necessary for birth giving mothers.
