Bone strength is detennined by its density and thickness. During the development, bone becomes longer and thicker, and this process may result in change of bone mass. Exercise is one of physical stressors, that may affect bone tissue, in addition to its role in preventing osteoporosis. However, the influcnce of interval anaerobic exercise on bone density and thickness has never been disclosed. This study was aimed to atte:,1 that intcrval anaerobic exercise for 4 and 8 weeks might increase bone density and thickness. This study used separate sample pre-tcst post-test contrel group desigri_ Experimental animal involved were male Wister strain Rattus norwegicus rruce aged 2 months. Samples were collected in random, and sample size of each group was 10. The independent variable was interval anaerobic exercise, and the dependent variables were bone density and thickmess. The samples were divided into 5 groups, i,e., pre-test group, 4 weeks control group (G1), 8 weeks control group (G2), 4 weeks treatment group (G3), and 8 weeks treatment group (G4). Bone density was measured•by means of Ultra Sound DBM Sonic 1200 at right femoral diaphysis 4 times by pushing the button on the monitor, while bone thickness was measured using planimeter. Results analvsis showed that interval anaerobic exercise for 4 weeks resulted in the increase of bone density (p = 0.001) and bone thickness (p = 0.000). The exercise for 8 weeks revealed increase in bone density in control group (p = 0.000) as well as in treatment group (p = 0.000), but it also resulted in decreased bone thickness in control (p = 0.077) and treatment group (p = 0.007). As a conclusion, anaerobic exercise for 4 weeks increases bone density and thickness, while anaerobic exercise for 8 weeks increases bone density, but not bone thickmess.
