Abstract

Indirect Inguinal Hernia is one of several hernia's with high incidence all over the world. In the USA, 500.000 cases of hernioraphy each year in average has been reported with a reccurency rate of 20%. This fact of incidence dan reccurency promote researchers to find a convinient hernioraphy technique for patient with less reccurency rate. The objectives of this study were to compare the effectiveness of hernioraphy techniques between Trabucco and Lichtenstein in length of operation; pain intensity at 2,4 and 7 days post operation; and post operation complications i.e infections and haematome. 30 sample's were random and equally allocated into 2 groups, i.e Trabucco and Lichtenstein groups. Sutureless Trabucco technique were done to all patients with Indirect Inguinal Hernia in Trabucco group, while Lichtenstein technique were done to patients in Lichtenstein group. Statistical analysis using independent T test was done to compare the length of operation between 2 (two) groups, 2 days poat operation. MannWhitney test was done to compare pain intensity between the 2 (two) groups 4 days post operation, while Fisher' s Exact test was done at 7 days post operation. All statistical analysis were done based on 95% level of significance and 80% of power test. Result of this research showed that Trabucco technique need significantly less time of operation compare to Lichtenstein technique (p=0,000 1). Patients who performed Trabucco technique had significantly lower pain intensity experience at 2 days post operation compare to Lichtenstein technique. There were no significance differences in pain intensity of patients who performed Trabucco technique and Lichtenstein technique at 4 days post operation (p=0,1). The same result was found at 7 days of operation (p=1,000). Finally, not any single complications i.e infections and haematomes were found among the 2 (two) groups post operation. Trabucco technique was proven to be more effective than Lichtenstein technique since it need less time of operation, lower pain intensity at 2 (two) days post operation, and did not result in any post operation infections and haematomes. We recommend Trabucco technique for patients with Indirect Inguinal Hernia. Due to the short time of operation, we recommend local anaesthesia for hernioraphy using Trabucco technique
