Abstract

Ultraviolet exposure from sunlight is very important in vitamin D metabolism. Vitamin D is one of the factors that influence bone remodeling. Unfortunately several reasons make everybody is exposed different quantity and quality of sunlight. Researches were conducted to discover alternative of ultraviolet source. The objectives this research is to prove that the exposure of the GE Chroma 50's light can increase bone density and serum alkaline phosphatase level. The increase of bone density is measured phisically by DBM sonic 1200 dan biochemically by serum alkaline phosphatase level . This research was a experimental study using The Separate-Sample Sample pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Twenty four Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar were examined, equally devided into 3 groups; pretest group, GE Chroma 50 group, and control posttest group. The pretest group were sacrificed at the beginning of the research, and the rest were examined for 100 days long before sacrified at the of the research. The data were analysed using manova test. There was a significant difference of bone density between pretest group compared to GE Chroma 50 group and posttest control group. There was also a significant difference of bone density between GE Chroma 50 group compared to posttest control group as well. It was also found a significant difference between pretest group compared to GE Chroma 50 group; and between GE Chroma 50 compared to posttest control group as well. Serum alkaline phosphatase level between pretest group compared to posttest control group showed no significant difference. It was found that there is a significant difference of the change of bone density between the GE Chroma 50 group compared to posttest control group groups. It was also known from the test that there is a significant difference of the serum alkaline phosphatase level between GE Chroma 50 group compared to posttest control group The ultraviolet exposure from GE Chroma 50 lamp can increase the bone density and serum lakaline phosphatase level
