Abstract
Social interaction satisfaction can be used as indicator of elderly psychological prosperity. Older people who don’t have social interaction satisfaction will get disintegration so that difficult adapt to aging process. Failure
of adaptation causes older person reduce activity moreover withdraw from social participation, so toward depression. So, to get a success aging process, older people should keep active in activity fit in with their ability.
This study was aimed to analyze correlation between grade of social interaction satisfaction and grade of elderly depression in Usia Elderly Folkhome Surabaya. The design used in this study was cross sectional design. The
population was old people living in Usia Elderly Folkhome Surabaya. Total sample was 20 respondents, taken according to inclusion criteria. The independent variable was grade of social interaction satisfaction. The dependent variable was
grade of elderly depression. Data were collected using structure questionnaire and Geriatric Depression Scale 30 items (GDS 30). Data were than analyzed using Somers’d test with level of significance of ≤ 0,05. The result showed that grade of social interaction satisfaction had negative
correlation with grade of elderly depression (ρ = 0,036, r = -0,424). It can be concluded that the lower grade of social interaction satisfaction then the hard grade of elderly depression. Further caring of elderly should keep
active in activity continuously to get a success aging process.
