Abstract
Snacking behavior has become a new culture for all group of age. The percentage of mixed snack with harmful substances is remained high. Peer group support is known to be succesfull to establish children’s healthy behavior. Those
who are involved in a peer group support may assess what they do, whether it is better, equal, or worse than other who do not inside a group. Therefore, this study was to investigate the significance of peer group support to healthy snacking behavior of school age in SDN Ajung 2 Kalisat Jember.
The design used in this study was quasy experiment, consist of 38 respondents drawn from SDN Ajung 2 Kalisat of 5ͭ ͪ grade students taken using simple random sampling. The collected data obtained through a close-ended questionnaire given to respondents, and were then analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank test and Mann Whitney U test with the significiance level of α≤0,05.
The results of this study were that the knowledge (p=0,001) and actions (p=0,019) influenced by peer group support, but not in attitude. Peer group support was not proven significantly to change attitude (p=129). This may
because that changing attitude takes time to be assesed (Notoatmodjo, 2003).
All in all, peer group support can be applied as one of the methods to change the snacking behavior of school aged children. However, peer group support needs more time to be proven effective in changing all domain of behavior. Therefore further studies are recommended to investigase the effect of peer group support to snacking behavior in longer periode.
