Abstract
Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is one of disease which causes both infant and toddler’ death. The mothers’ behavior in Klampitan subdistrict Klampitan Purwoasri Kediri is very low in ARI’s prevention. It is caused by several factors, one of them is lack of knowledge about ARI and its preventions.
The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the influence of peer group support on the mothers’ behavior in ARI prevention in working area community health center Sumberjo Purwoasri Kediri.
This study used quasy experiment method. Population was mother of infants and toddlers (age 1-4 year). The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique. The independent variable was peer group support. Dependent variable
was mothers’ behavior about ARI’s preventions. Data were collected by using questionnaire and observation. Data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test and Mann Whitney U test with significance level α ≤ 0,05.
Result showed that the knowledge of mothers’ about ARI’s preventions had increased (p=0,011), as well as attitude (p=0,011) and practice (p=0,017).
This study concluded that peer group support gave a good effect to mother’s behavior about ARI’s prevention. Further studies are expected to identify or analyze the factors that influence knowledge, attitude and practice in ARI’s preventions.
