Abstract
Elderly closely related with sleep disorders, especially in the elderly who have health problems, such as diabetes mellitus. This research was conducted to clarify needs to sleep in elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with accumulation of blood glucose levels and insulin resistance. Effectiveness of insulin is related with the waking at night through the mechanism of activation of the HPA axis and simpatic nerve.
Descriptive method was choosen for sampling to 11 people by purposive sampling technique. The instrument used is the questionnaire needs sleep and glukotest. Measured variables such as the quality and quantity of sleep, and levels of random blood glucose before and after waking, collected data were analyzed by descriptive.
This research, showed that random blood glucose level before bed increase, can caused the sleep quality and quantity is poor, the quality and the quantity of bad sleep can have an effect on high blood glucose levels after awakening sleep.
The results of this researsh, can be described the relationship between compliance needs include the quality and quantity of sleep in older adults in type 2 diabetes mellitus, with random blood glucose levels before and after waking. Obtained a solution in the form termination of the chain of variables so that the condition patients with diabetes mellitus remained stable
