Abstract

Interest is a drive that endorses someone to pay attention to individuals or objects. Interest may serve as a reason why someone provides attention to an object and plays an active role in an activity. A lack of interest, willingness, or experience of a student is using his opportunity to study in a laboratory may become an obstacle to attain the expected results. The objective of this study was to analyze correlation between learning interest in the laboratory for course 105 (Human Basic Needs) and psychomotoric capability in installing infusion among students year II and III, Program A, Nursing Study Program, Mataram, from January 26 to 29, 2005. This study used descriptive method with cross-sectional design. Population was 79 students, 40 from year II and the remaining 39 from year III. Samples were taken using total sampling, by which all populations were recruited as samples. Results revealed significance of p = 0.000 and correlation coefficient of r = 0.667, indicating a strong correlation between independent variable, the learning interest in laboratory for course 105 (Human Basic Needs) and the dependent variable, psychomotoric capability in installing infusion, among students year II and III, Program A, Nursing Study Program, Mataram. Conclusively, the learning interest of the students was mostly high in 55 individuals (69.6%) and psychomotoric capability in installing infusion was reliable in 61 individuals (77.2%). This proved a strong correlation between variables, with p < 0.05. Learning interest should be improved among the students who study at the laboratory for course 105 (Human Basic Needs).
