Abstract

The degradation cognitive function representing which one symptom early pikun that happenend at elderly. Elderly with Diabetes mellitus (DM) have cognitive impairment with dysfunctional glucose metabolism in the brain. The impact continue from degradation cognitive function will happened dimensia. The aimed of this study was to the effect of brain gym to the improvement cognitive function at elderly with DM. This study was used pre eksperimental design with one group pre-post test design. The population was used in this study 15 respondent elderly with DM in Puskesmas Manukan Kulon Surabaya. The sample was recruited using cluster sampling, consisting of 3 RW, taken according to the place. The independent variable of research this study was brain gym and the dependent variable was change cognitive function at elderly with DM. Data were collected using MMSE¬Ina score. Data were presented as descriptive statistic and statistical analysis was analyzed by using Paired t Test with level significance p≤0.05. Result showed that there was an effect of brain gym to the improvement cognitive function at elderly in Puskesmas Manukan kulon Surabaya with statistical test Paired t Test with level significance p=0.000. The conclusion of this research is improvement cognitive function at elderly with DM after intervention was brain gym. The function of brain gym is a represent simple movement method able to coordinate brain function return so that brain activity more optimal later can improve memory function, recall, concentration.
