Abstract

Plastics factory workers have high risk of being exposed to chemical factors such as polypropylene and have risk of work accidents. It is compulsary to protect plastics factory workers from the effeects of hazardous environment by wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). The purpose of this research is to analyze factors related to practice on workers use of PPE in CV. Victory Indah Perkasa. cross sectional design was used in these research. Population of this research was plastics factory workers who work by May 2012 in CV. Victory Indah Perkasa, Surabaya. Total sampling was used as the sampling technique. The participant in this research was 25 workers. Variables of this research are characteristics of workers (age, long of work, educational level), predisposing factors (knowledge and attitude), enabling factors (availibility and comfortability of PPE) and the application of PPE. The data was analized by using Spearman’s Rho with level of significance α≤0.05 if ordinal scale data, and use Chi-square with level of significance α≤0.05 if nominal scale data. The result of this research showed that there wasn’t related to the age of workers (r=0.087, p=0.680) and long of work (r=0.274, p=0.184) with use of PPE. There was relationship between education level (p=0.001) with use of PPE. There was strong relationship between knowledge (r=0.783, p=0.000) and attitude (r=0.683, p=0.000) with use of PPE. There was very strong relationship between availibility PPE (r=0.819, p=0.000) and comfort of PPE (r=0.909, p=0.000) with use of PPE. Conclusion of this research was the age of workers and long of work that wasn’t related with use of PPE, while the other factors were related. It is suggested for the factory to improve PPE supply system according to the number and types of PPE in the workplace and to improve helth promotion methode (counseling, training and supervision) by officer Health Safety and Environment (HSE).
