Abstract

Social behavior in toddlers is activity in relation to other people, both with peers, teachers, parents and the community. Toddler-aged children are in the transition from egocentric phase towards social phase. Several methods can be used to teach toddlers to be able to socialize well, one of which is storytelling. Storytelling is one method that is close to the toddlers and can be used as a method to improve their social behavior. This study was aimed to examine the effect of storytelling on the development of social behavior in toddlers at Pos PAUD Terpadu Edelweiss Surabaya. This study used pre-experimental design (one-group pretest-posttest design). The sample size in this study was 18 children, enrolled using purposive sampling in accordance to the inclusion criteria. The independent variable in this study was storytelling. The dependent variable was the development of social behavior. Data were collected through observation sheet. Analysis of the data in this study used Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with significance level __ 0.05. Results showed that there was storytelling effect on the development of social behavior and there was different social behavior before and after the intervention to the respondents. It was proved from the results of Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, which had significance value 0.000. In conclusion, there was significant effect of storytelling on the development of social behavior among toddlers. Storytelling can be used for community health nurses as a method to improve social behavior in toddler-aged children.
