Abstract
Diabetes mellitus’s prevalence in 2000 is over than 175,4 million people in the world and it is getting higher and predicted become 239,3 million people in 2010. Some of medicinal treatments have been done to cure Diabetes mellitus. One of them is by using herbal medicine. Muntingia calabura leaf is known as one of Diabetes medicine. The aim of this research is to investigate the effects of Muntingia calabura L.leaf’s water boiled to regulate blood glucose in Diabetes mellitus mice (Mus musculus). This research is a true experimental research. Sample research is mice (mus musculus) male from the same colony, 2-3 month with body weight 20-30 grams. 24 male mice were divided into two groups, normal control groups and diabetic control groups. The diabetic groups were injected by alloxan to induce Diabetes mellitus. On the 10th day, blood glucose levels of male mice were measured, all mice showed the symptoms of Diabetes mellitus. Those groups were treated on the 7th day. First group was normal control group and second group was diabetic groups. Diabetic groups were divided into control diabetic group (no treatment), first treatment group was treated by Muntingia calabura L.leaf’s water boiled 20 % 0,36 ml/25 gram body weight and second treatment group was treated by Muntingia calabura L.leaf’s water boiled 40 % 0,36 ml/25 gram body weight. The results of ANOVA Post Hoc test with LSD for fast blood glucose level and 2 Post Pandrial blood glucose level revealed p=0,000 for control normal group with control diabetes group, control diabetes group with first treatment group and control diabetes group with second treatment group. The regulating of blood glucose levels predicted caused by flavonoid which is contained on Muntingia calabura L. leaf’s water boiled. Flavonoid is an antioxidant agent. Flavonoid can block the damage of β cells in pancreas caused by alloxan injection. β cells in pancreas will regenerate and secrete insulin hormone into bloodstream. Flavonoid also can recover insulin hormone receptor sensitivity on cell. This condition causes the regulating of blood glucose levels on mice (Mus musculus). As a solution to the future, need to be made effective doses which can be more effective and efficient for people.
