Abstract

"A HIV/AIDS case infection in Indonesia had been increased every year. One of vulnerable communities on spreading HIV/AIDS infection was construction workers. The fact, HIV/AIDS care services is rarely accessed by this community. This study was to explain the motivation of construction workers to access HIV/AIDS care services based on Self-Determination Theory (SDT). This study used descriptive analytic survey design. Respondents were construction workers at Ibis Hotel projects PT. Nusa Raya Cipta Surabaya. Sampling had done by convenience sampling technique and 50 respondents were analyzed. Study variables were external motivation, internal motivation, and access HIV/AIDS care services. Data were collected using modified questionnaire from Treatment Motivation Questionnaire (TMQ). Spearmen Rho test (α < 0.05) were used to analyzed the data. The results showed that there was a relationship between external motivation with the access HIV/AIDS care services on the construction workers with significance p = 0.000 and r = 0,480. Internal motivation was also connected HIV/AIDS care services on the construction workers with significance p = 0.011 and r = 0,358. It can be concluded that external and internal motivation able to influence construction workers to access HIV/AIDS care services. External motivation has a stronger effect than internal motivation. Health and Safety division at Ibis Hotel projects PT. Nusa Raya Cipta Surabaya was expected to provide more health education related to transmission risk factors of HIV/AIDS and how to access HIV/AIDS care services in order to prevent HIV/AIDS transmission."
