Abstract

The objective of this study is to estimate the effects of various intensities of physical exercise, especially aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise on the level of tissue damage, the plasma lipid peroxidation product and the activity of antioxidant enzymes in erythrocytes. The main purpose of the study is to find out the influence of exercise intensity on the level of tissue damage, and mechanism of tissue damage according to the concept free radicals. The subject of this study were 30 healthy males, untrained and the ages of the subjects were between 19 and 22 years, randomly assigned to high intensity of physical exercise (anaerobic exercise) and moderate or low intensity of physics:l exercise (aerobic exercise). Measurement were conducted on the level of tissue damage [the activity of plasma lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine phosphokinase (CPK)], the plasma lipid peroxidation product [the level of plasma malodialdehyde (MDA)], and the activity of antioxidant enzymes [superoxide dismutase {SOD) and catalase (CAT)] in erythrocytes before and after exercises. The subjects exercised (aerobic or anaerobic exercise) on a bicycle ergometer for 30 minute. Blood samples were taken 5 minute before, 5 minute and 60 minute after exercises. The collected data were analyzed with multivariate analysis, t-test, and path analysis (oc = 0,05) . These results demonstrated that exercises increase the levels of lipid peroxidation product and the level of tissue damage, significantly (p < 0,05), while the activity of antioxidant enzymes decrease significantly (p < 0,05). The increase of lipid peroxidation product, the level of tissue damage and the decrease of antioxidant enzymes activity were significantly higher on anaerobic exercise than aerobic exercise. The path analysis of the level of lipid peroxidation product the activity of ~mtioxidant enzymes activity, and the level of blood lactic acid on the level of tissue damage, showed the level of lipid peroxidation product influenced the level of tissue damage significantly only (p < 0,05). The level of lipid peroxidation product was influenced by the level of lactic acid and the level of antioxidant enzymes (p < 0.05). This research proved the concept of free radicals on the mechanism of tissue damage in physical exercise. The risk of tissue damage was smaller in aerobic exercise than in anaerobic exercise
