Abstract

Nursing research is the basic of scientific nursing knowledge and very important for improving the effectiveness and efficiency health caring. The objective of this study was to explain correlation between motivation, either intrinsic motivation or extrinsic motivation with the implementation of nursing research activity. This research was a descriptive by using cross sectional method. The population was all bachelor nurses in Surgical Inpatient Wards RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya who are civil servants and have ≥1 years time of work since graduated from bachelor, 16 nurses were recruited by means total sampling. The independent variables were intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. While the dependent variable was the implementation of nursing research activity. Data were collected by using questioners and analyzed by using correlation spearmen rho test, with significant level α≤0, 05. Results showed that there was a significant correlation between nurse’s motivation with the implementation of nursing research activity with significant value (ρ=0,003) and r=0,695. It can be concluded that the great intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are needed for better implementation of nursing research activity. Reward, dividing work system, interpersonal relationship, hospital policy and administration, and also research facilities must be repaired for keeping the great intrinsic and extrinsic nurse motivation.
