Abstract

Menstruation treatments in female teenagers must be done well and hygienic. Discussion method and demonstration method give some positive effect increasing behavior. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectivity of discussion method and demonstration method in heath education on menstruation treatments behaviors on teenagers. The study used quasy experimental design. The populations female teenagers age 12 to 14 years old at 7th Junior High School Probolinggo. Sample taken using probability sampling simple random sampling. Sample composed of 75 respondents, devided into group of discussion method (25 respondents), demonstration method (25 respondents), and group of control (25 respondents). Data were collected using questionnaire and observation chart. for knowledge and attitude as well as conservation for behavior. Data then analyzed using Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann Whitney u test with significance level of p ≤ α ≤ 0,05. The results showed that discussion method and demonstration method effective in increasing knowledge (discussion method α=0.001, demonstration method α=0.00). Discussion method and demonstration method effective in increasing attitude (discussion method α=0.013, demonstration method α=0.05). And discussion method and demonstration method not effective in increasing action (discussion method α=0.157, demonstration method α=0,157). So, there wasn’t different in effectiveness between discussion method and demonstration method in health education to change teenager’s knowledge (p=0.716), attitude (p=0.773) and change teenager’s behavior about menstruation treatments prevention too (p= 0.784). It can be conclude that the health education about treatments on menstruation has effect on behavioral teenagers in menstruation treatments. Further studies are necessary to investigate the effectiveness health education using of discussion method and demonstration method on menstruation traetments.
