Abstract

Severe malnutrition is less of nutrition in a serious condition. Food pattern is the most factor that influence to health and nutritional status, like the severe malnutrition. Because of that, it was needed better means about the food pattern. The purpose of this study is analyzes factors that related to food pattern of children under five years with severe malnutrition in Sumenep district. This research was cross sectional design. The population was children under five years in Sumenep that was taken by simple random sampling. There was 28 sampels. The data collected by gave a questionarre about the factors and the food pattern. To measured the food pattern, there was 2 questionarre that was food frequency checklist and recall 2x24 hours that previously convert to percentages of recommended dietary allowance. And then, all of the data analyzed by Spearman’s rho and Chi square with significancy level <0,05. The result of this research is mother’s education level related to food pattern with the signification level is 0,028 and coefficient correlation is 0,414. However, family income, number of family members, separation between two birth, food taboo, food supply and knowledge of the mother not related to food pattern. In conclusion, there is only education level of the respondent’s mother that related to food pattern of children under five years with severe malnutrition in Sumenep. Mother’s education level become the entry point of the mother’s in this study to get better skill and knowledge about food consumption. From this result, it can be reccommendated to government of Sumenep to facilitate and increase the education level of mother in Sumenep and for the further study to analyzes the Madurese culture and the others factors that influence to food pattern of children under five years with severe malnutrition in Sumenep.
