Abstract
Pain is a condition more than just a single sensation caused by a certain stimulus. It is a mixture of physical, emotional, and behavioral reactions. One of the interventions which may be effective to overcome the pain during invasive treatment of children at pre-school age is story telling, story telling may lead children to imagine extensively so that the feeling of pain can be diverted from them. The purpose of this study was to find out the influence story telling on the decrease of pain response during invasive treatment of children at pre-school age. This study employed a quasy experiment with post only design. The population was 25 children total of 12 children were recruited as sample against inclusive criteria by means of pourposive sampling. The data was then analyzed using Mann Whitney U test in order to test two free samples, i.e. the experimental and control groups. The test results in the psychological response of p=0.003 or p<0.05, and in the physiological response in blood pressure of p=0.575 or p>0.05, while heart pulse and respiration p=1.00 or p>0.05. It can be concluded that here is a significant difference in psychological response of post test value between the experimental group and the control group, while in the physiological response there is no significant difference shown by the experimental and control groups respectively. So, it is proposed that story telling may be one alternative to help decrease pain during invasive treatment.
