Abstract
Antenatal care (ANC) visit is the primary health care during pregnancy to reduce mortality rate in mothers and infants and to provide early detection of complications in pregnancy. So that, pregnant mothers may receive early treatment and referral to better health facilities. The success of ANC visit depend on health care provider, communication facility and participation of pregnant women themselves. Therefore, it is necessary to provide explanation for improving knowledge on pregnancy hazard which can be expected also to improve the attitude of pregnant mothers. The aim of this study was to identify knowledge, attitude, ANC visit and correlation beetwen knowledge and attitude on pregnancy hazards with the implementation of ANC visit.
This was a Cross Sectional study. Population comprised all trimester III pregnant mothers with pregnancy age > 32 weeks in Community Health Center, Jagir, Surabaya, from June 20 to July 12, 2007. Samples size was 30 trimester III pregnant mothers, recruited using purposive sampling. Data analysis was carried out using Spearman's Rho statistical test with value of meaning < 0,05.
Result obtained in this study revealed that mother's knowledge was good category, their attitude was positive and ANC visit was good category. Correlation analysis showed significant correlation beetwen knowledge and ANC visit with p= 0.000 (a < 0.05) and significant correlation beetwen attitude and ANC visit with p= 0.010 (a < 0.05).
Pregnant mothers are suggested to keep making ANC visit in avaialable health facilities and health care providers should provide more information or education on pregnancy hazard for pregnant mothers.
