Abstract

"Aging process causes the cerebral alteration in its structure and function. It causes elder peop!e become easier to forget the new information they just received. There are many techniques used to increase me-mmy ability in elder people, two of which more effective in elderly are EEA (Explicit External Aids) and IIA (Implicit lnternal 4.ids), but the differences effectiveness between the two are clear yet. This research used pre-experimental, two group pre-post test dcs;gn. The total sample was 18 respondents. The independent variables were EEA an1l IIA method, the dependent variable was memory ability which are measured by Recall and recognition test. The collected data were rati0, data analyzed by paired t-test and independent t-test with level of significance a :S 0.05. Result of pair t-test showed that there are differences in recall and recognition test score after and before intervention (using EEA method: p=O.OOO of IFR, p=-=0.000 of DFR and p=O.Ol2 of recognition, IIA method: p=O.OOO of IFR, p=O.OOO of DFR and 0.021 of Recognition). Result of independen t-test showed that there .re differences in recall test score between two groups after the intervention (p=0.021 of IFR test and p=0.012 of DFR test). But, there are no differences in recognition test score between the two groups (p=O.l85). The test mean sco!~ showed that EEA group score was higher than UA group's. So that it can be concluded that EEA is more effective than IIA."
