Abstract

Shortening or prolonging the hospital LOS may therefore increase the risk of not completing the evaluations and treatment needed and patient complication. Nursing intervention's needed to prevent both shortening or prolonging LOS. The objective of the study was to prove the correlation between LOS of stroke patient and quality of nursing intervention in Ward III, Pavilion I and Pavilion II, Kediri Baptist Hospital. This study used cross sectional design. The population was all nurses who worked in Ward III, Pavilion I and Pavilion H. Total sample was 38 persons, taken by purposive sampling. The independent variable was nursing intervention quality included independent intervention, dependent intervention, collaborative intervention, observation and health education. The dependent one was LOS of stroke patient. Data were collected by using structured questionnaire and respondent observation. Data were analyzed by using Spearman Rank Correlation with significant level p<0,05. The results showed that nursing observation as a part of nursing intervention had significant correlation with LOS of stroke patient which p = 0,017 and r = 0.647. The correlation between independent intervention, dependent intervention, collaborative intervention and health education were not present with p> 0,05. In conclusions, the correlation between nursing intervention quality and LOS is not significant. Nursing observation is the one of nursing intervention that have significant correlation. It leads the nurse to increase their capability to do all of nursing intervention by following high education of nursing. Further studies are needed to prove the relationship between nursing problems and LOS of stroke patient
