Abstract
"ObjectIve : This study explores the protectivc effects of black Cumin (Nigefla sadva) extract, before single high dose of paracetamo1 adrninistration to rat's liver function (Rattus norvegicus). Design and Methods: This study used the Post-test Only Control Group Design. Fourty rats (Rattus norvegicus) 4 months years old were divided into 4 groups. The negative convol and positive control group received water 0,5 mliday through intragastric sonde for 10 days. The first treatment group received 1,25 gik.gbw black Curnin extract (Nigella sativa) each day through intragastric sonde for 10 davs, and the second treatment group received 2.5 gikgbw black Cumin extract (Nigella sativa) each day through intxagastric sonde for 10 days too. At day 8111 and 2 hour after the last treatment, the negative control group received 2 ml CMC Na 0,5 % through intragastric sonde ; the positive control, the first and second treatment group received 1200raiikgbw paracetarnol through intragastric sonde. 48 hours later, all anirnal were sacrified and killed using ether, and then were taken 5 tni their blood intracardially to test the level of SGPT, y-GT, Total Bilirubin, Direct Bilirubin and Indirect Bilirubin. The data of SGPT. y-GT, Total Biiirubin, Direct Bilirubin and Indirect Bilirubin were collected and analyzed using MANOVA and ANOVA and the differences between groups in one variable is analyzed by the LSD at I % level of confidence. Resuli: Rats that were treated with 1200 mg/kgbw paracetamol in single high dose through intragastric sonde in the positivc control show increasing level of SGPT, y-GT, Total Bilirubin, and Indirect (p<0,01) compare with negative control group. Black Cumin extract (Nigella sativa) decrease level of SGPT, y-GT, Total Bilirubin, and Indirect Bilirubin (7(0,01) significantly (Fr<0,01.) in the first and second treatrnent group compare with the positive contro! group. Conclusion : pre treatment with black curnin extract (nigella sadva) before single high dose paracetamol administration give a protection to the rat's liver function. "
