Abstract
Emotional intelligence is self-awareness, self-confidence, commitment and integrity as well as one's ability in communicating, influencing, and accepting change. Nurses behavior lies in the character of nurse’s performance, as nurse’s performance is the way humans think, feel and have a relationship with one another. The aimed of this study was to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and the performance of nurses based on kopelman’s concept. These study was used cross-sectional design. The population in these study was the nurse in emergency room of Leprosy Hospital Sumbergalagah Mojokerto, comprising 11 respondents. The sample were nine nurses who fulfilled to the inclusion criteria by using purposive sampling techniques. The independent variable was emotional intelligence and the dependent variable was nurses’ performance. Data were retrieved by using questionnaire and analyzed by using Spearman Rho test with significance level < 0.05. The results showed that there were significant relationship between emotional intelligence and tangibles (p=0.018, r=0.756) and reliability (p=0.018, r=0.756). There were no significant relationship between emotional intelligence and responsiveness (p=0.089, r=0.598), assurance (p=0.052, r=0.66 1), and empathy (p=0.626, r=0.189). It can be concluded that there were relationship between emotional intelligence with tangibles and reliability, which mean the better nurse's emotional intelligence, the better their performance. However, there were no relationship between emotional intelligence and responsiveness, assurance and empathy. Further research should be extend to research relationship between practical intelligence and responsivesness, assurance and empathy.
