Abstract

Breastmilk is very important for baby's brain and body growth. Breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months arranged in the law as the government strongly recommends breastfeeding. This study was aimed to compare the result on weight gained between infants aged 0-6 months with exclusive breasfeeding and non exclusive breastfeeding in Campurdarat Health Center Tulungagung. Design used in this study was cross sectional design. The population was all infants aged 0-6 months feeded with breastmilk in area of Campurdarat HealthCenter Tulungagung. Total samples was 30 respondents consist of 15 infants aged 0-6 months with exclusive breastfeeding and 15 infants aged 0-6 months with non exclusive breastfeeding, taken according to inclusion criteria. The independent variables were exclusive breastfeeding and non exclusive breastfeeding. The dependent variable was weight gained on infants. Data were collected using retrospective study from the data on health center. Data were then analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney test with level of significance of ≤ 0,05. Result showed that infants aged 0-6 month with exclusive breastfeeding have the number of ideal weight gained than infants aged 0-6 month with non exclusive breastfeeding. The result of the Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney tests prove that breast feeding was affect on weight gained on infants aged 0-6 month (P ≤ 0,05). It can be concluded that infants aged 0-6 months with exclusive breastfeeding have ideal weight gained than infants aged 0-6 month with non exclusive breastfeeding. Further studies should involve larger respondents and better measurement tools to obtain more accurate result.
