Abstract

Cervical cancer in Indonesia is the main cause of mortality women. This could be causes by the lack of women knowledge about prevention of cervical cancer. The risk factors showed that womans who is marriage in < 20 years old are 14,7%, who have children more than two are 8% and womans using oral contraception are 7%. Health education with peer group discussion is one of effort to solve this problem. The purpose of peer group discussion is to share information or experience with peer. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of peer group discussion on prevention cervical cancer in Ngrandu District Kecamatan Sukomoro Nganjuk. This was a quasy-experimental research. The collected samples comprised 26 women with risk factor of cervical cancer, divided between: 13 persons in intervention group and the rest 13 persons belonged to control group. The independent variable was peer group discussion, while the dependent variable was women’s knowledge, attitude and action. The statistical test used was ‘Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test’ and ‘Mann Whitney Test’ with the level of significance α≤0.05. The result of ‘Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test’ showed that peer group discussion had significant effect knowledge (intervention group p=0.003 and control group p=0.564), attitude (intervention group p=0.046 and control group p=1.000), but in action had no significant effect (intervention group p=0.083 and control group p=0.157) . Mann-Whitney U Test showed that the result between intervention and control group is different, it means peer group discussion has significant effect to the knowledge (p=0.011) and attitude (p=0.05) but in action the result had no significant (p=0.361). It can be concluded that peer group discussion on cervical cancer prevention could improve knowledge, attitude and action because with their peer women became easier to discuss any problem on cervical cancer. It is recommended to implement health education for woman in Ngrandu district about prevention of cervical cancer which is done by public health center. Further study for this research is to compare the effectiveness between peer group discussion and health education with audiovisual method.
