Abstract

Currently, HIV/AIDS has spread throughout most of the world. One of the risk factors that can accelerate the spread of HIV/AIDS in Indonesia, among others, is increasing male sex customers' reluctance to use condoms. Until now, the vulnerability of HIV/AIDS among truck drivers has not been considered as a serious problem by the government. Groups considered vulnerable to HIV/AIDS are still focused on commercial sex workers, transgender and gay (homosexuals), and needle users. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that influence the behavior of using condoms in preventing HIV/AIDS among truck drivers from PT Flash Trans Perak Barat Surabaya. The design of this study was descriptive-analytic cross sectional design. The study population was all truckers of PT Flash Trans Perak Barat Surabaya. Sampling technique used was total sampling to get as many as 53 respondents. The results showed no correlation to the factors that influence the behavior of condom use for prevention of HIV/AIDS among truck drivers from PT Flash Trans Perak Barat Surabaya. This was indicated by the analysis of the perception of vulnerability and severity p =0.001 and the value of correlation r= 0.3, the perception of the benefits of condom use p =0.004 and correlation value r= 0.3 , perceptions of barriers to condom use p =0.009 and correlation value r = 0.3, perceived self-efficacy of condom use p =0.02 and correlation value r =0.3 . In conclusion, there correlation among the factors affecting the use of condoms for HIV/AIDS prevention in truck drivers. Some of those factors are the perception of and HIV vulnerability and severity, perceived benefits of condom use, perceived barriers to condom use and perceptions of self-efficacy of condom use. During intercourse with his wife and new partners, truck driver is advised to use condoms for prevention of HIV/AIDS.
