Abstract

Illness and hospitalization stress can become the first crisis to the children. At preschool age, children who are cared at the hospital showed maladaptive responses. One of the effective method to reduce hospitalization stress is by playing therapy. For preschool children, one of the playing therapy which can be given is by playing with plastisins. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of playing with plastisin to reduce hospitalization stress on preschool children. The research used Quasy Experimental design with non-probability sampling (purposive sampling). The population were 12 preschool age children hospitalized in pediatric room Marine Hospital Gunungsari Surabaya, meet inclusion. The data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with significance level of α ≤ 0.05, and Mann Whitney Test with significance level of α ≤ 0.05. The results show a significant correlation between playing plastisin with hospitalization stress responses in the treatment group (p=0.025). More over, the Mann Whitney Test indicated a significant difference in stress level reduction between control group and treatment group with p=0.034. It can be concluded that playing with plastisin can decrease hospitalization stress in preschool children. Further study is recommended to investigate of playing with plastisin on biological responses of stress preschool children in hospitalized.
